Founded in 1946 Franciscan University of Steubenville has grown into a world-renowned Catholic University. With 2,100 undergrad and 350 graduate students living on campus or in the local area, as well as 260 online or distance students, the University has become a leading force in local economic development, including the creation of quality jobs and new commercial development opportunities. The University now employs over 370 full-time individuals. In 2015 they unveiled the exciting vision known as Franciscan Square. EASTERN GATEWAY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Eastern Gateway Community College (www.egcc.edu) offers associate’s degrees in a variety of fields as well as ongoing training for the adult population. Programs are focused on meeting the workforce demands of local industry. For example, oil and gas drilling programs have recently been created and the welding lab underwent a $600,000 upgrade in 2016 to continue serving local companies and prepare for the county’s forecasted growth.
